The Tri-Border Reporter is the official monthly family newspaper for the NATO communities in Geilenkirchen, Germany, as well as Brunssum and Schinnen in the Netherlands. Sponsored by the Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base Airmen & Family Readiness Center, this publication focuses on the needs of the families by reporting about military services to families, entertainment opportunities and local attractions. Geilenkirchen is the home of the NATO AWACS E-3 Component, with more than 10,000 military, civilian and family members living in the area. The E-3 flies with a large radar mounted on its fuselage, looking like a giant Frisbee. The radar is used to guide NATO fighters to intercept/engage enemy aircraft.
